SAVOURY RECIPE OF THE MONTH

An Grianan Brown Bread  - the perfect accompaniment to those summer picnics, serve with smoked salmon, a selection of cheese and relishes or antipasti                                

1 lb coarse wholemeal flour

1 tbsp bran

1 tbls wheatgerm

1 tbsp pinhead oatmeal or oat flakes

1 rounded tsp bread soda

1 level tsp salt

1 tbsp honey

1 tbsp olive oil

Buttermilk to mix.

 

Method

 Place all dry ingredients in bowl.

Heat a spoon and measure out honey.   Make a well in centre of dry ingredients

and pour in honey.  Mix with buttermilk and make a wet dough.

Add oil with buttermilk and honey.

Pour into a greased and floured tin and bake for 1 hour, 200C, 400F, no. 7 gas

for ½ hr and 375f, 180C, Gas 5 – 6 for ½ hour.
