Celebration of the ICA’s 100 anniversary
A wonderful celebration of the ICA’s 100 anniversary was held in Wexford on 6th and 7th May. The celebration commenced on the 6th May with a Civic Reception in Whites Hotel, followed by a Gala Dinner Dance in the Ferrycarrig Hotel, Wexford.
The 7th May was an action packed day with the National President Anne Maria Dennison unveiling a monument in Oylegate at 11am, this is the oldest running guild in the country. Following this refreshments were served in the local hall.
From Oylegate, members went to the Church Yard in Bree for the laying of a wreath on the grave of Anita Lett (the founder of the ICA).
At 3pm an Ecumenical Service was held in the Church in Bree. Following this beautiful service, members were escorted by the Ballindangan Pipe Band to the ICA memorial garden for the planting of a tree an unveiling of the centenary monument. This garden was once the site of St Aidans Hall, where the first ICA meeting was held. Following the speeches food and entertainment were provided in the local hall and marquee.
