Influencing Change

Throughout its history the ICA has been at the forefront in identifying the issues of importance to women and families and working for change at both policy and practical levels. The history section on this site outlines many of the issues where ICA has been at the forefront of change. The work continues in a new century, in many cases on issues that are long standing concerns.

Policy Priorities

In 2010 the Association adopted five priorities for its policy work and these five issues are also influential in determining national activities and partnerships. The five areas are:
Health Issues
Women & Decision Making
Women & Violence
Trafficking of women and children
Amber Alert

ICA Policy Committee

The Policy Committee oversees the developments in relation to each priority area, researching and informing the membership and the positions that the ICA takes publicly.

A Voice for Change

The ICA works at a number of levels to promote change and to campaign for better services for women and families. At National level contacts with decision makers involve the National Officers and Chief Executive, who regularly advocate for change with Government and at EU level.

In December 2010 a presentation by the ICA leadership was made to the Joint Committee on Tourism, Culture, Sport, Community, Equality and Gaeltacht Affairs on The Role of the ICA in Irish Society in the 21st century. The meeting provided an opportunity to discuss the overall role of the ICA as well as the particular work on policy issues. The full discussion can be read here.

Through representation on a range of bodies the ICA brings the voice of the members to the table and aims to help shape policies and services that are right for women and families.
