Sligo Federation

Sligo Federation was founded in 1954 and has Guilds in all areas of the County such as Ballintrillick, Ballisodare, Ballymote, Beltra, Coolaney, Dromore West / Templeboy, Drumcliffe, Dunally, Geevagh/Highwood, Gleann, Lakeview (Carraroe area), Maugherow, Riverstown, Rosses Point, Skreen, and Strandhill.

The Federation is represented on Sligo Social Services, County Sligo VEC and is a member of Sligo Community Forum and the Gathering 2013 Committee. The Federation is represented annually at shows in Beltra, Grange and at Riverstown Heritage Day. Strandhill Guild host a National Heritage Day event as well as voluntarily keeping Dollys Cottage (a 200 year old thatched cottage) open to the public during the summer months.

Records tell us that interest in ICA began in Sligo when Lady L.M. Crofton, Longford House, Ballisodare made application to join the Association on the 21st June 1911. For nearly forty years Guilds were established around the county in various locations. In 1950 Sligo, Leitrim and Donegal formed a joint Federation and in 1954 Sligo had sufficient Guilds to form its own Federation. Two former ICA National Presidents were born in County Sligo – Camilla Hannon from Ballymote and Kitty Harlin Easkey and both members of Meath Federation.

A member of Gleann Guild Maura McManus held the position of National Treasurer.
